چکیده

Pathology The mass was localised to one quadrant of the anal canal and radical local excision was attempted to preserve continence. There was an ellipse of mucosa and anal skin with deep tissues. The mucosal surface was scarred from the chronic fistula, but had no mass lesion evident. Sectioning showed a loculated mucinous lesion. Histologically, the tumour was a very well differentiated mucinous adenocarcinoma. In many areas acellular mucin dissected through the tissues. When present, the epithelium lining the mucin-filled spaces was atypical, ranging from only subtle nuclear crowding and mild loss of polarity to more obvious but still relatively mild pleomorphism. The epithelium was predominantly flat or was thrown into low amplitude papillary folds. The stroma was bland collagenous tissue. The tumour cystic spaces extended into the muscularis propria, and focally reached the peripheral resection margin.

The Internet Journal of PathologyTM ISSN: 1528-8307 Anal gland adenocarcinoma

Anal malignancies constitute approximately 1 to 3 % of all large-bowel carcinomas 1, 2 and less than 6 % of all anorectal carcinomas 3,4 . The latter is either squamous or glandular type. The squamous cell carcinoma is much more common than adenocarcinoma. Anal canal adenocarcinoma is subclassified into adenocarcinoma arising in anal mucosa and extamucosal (perianal) adenocarcinoma. The latter ...

Successful Treatment of Metastatic Anal Canal Adenocarcinoma with mFOLFOX6 + Bevacizumab

Anal canal adenocarcinoma is a relatively rare malignancy without established diagnostic and treatment criteria. Case reports of chemotherapy for anal canal adenocarcinoma with distant metastasis are limited, and there is no convincing evidence for treatment effectiveness. A 62-year-old man complained of difficulty in defecation, anal pain, and bleeding during bowel movement. He was diagnosed w...

A case of metastatic carcinoma of anal fistula caused by implantation from rectal cancer

This case involved an 80-year-old man who was seen for melena. Further testing revealed a tubular adenocarcinoma 50 mm in size in the rectum. In addition, an anal fistula was noted behind the anus along with induration. A biopsy of tissue from the external (secondary) opening of the fistula also revealed adenocarcinoma. Nodules suspected of being metastases were noted in both lung fields. The p...

mFOLFOX6 Chemotherapy after Resection of Anal Canal Mucinous Adenocarcinoma

Because of their rarity, there are no clear guidelines for the treatment of anal carcinomas; such tumors are normally subjected to the same modalities as recommended for rectal cancer. We report a patient with anal canal mucinous adenocarcinoma, with metastases in the pararectal and right inguinal lymph nodes, who was treated with abdominoperineal resection followed by mFOLFOX6 chemotherapy for...

Synchronous mucinous adenocarcinoma of the recto sigmoid revealed by and seeding an anal fistula. (A case report and review of the literature)

INTRODUCTION There are few cases of synchronous rectal adenocarcinoma revealed by an anal fistula. The diagnosis of synchronous mucinous adenocarcinoma of the recto sigmoid and anal canal remains difficult. The chronic anal fistula can be mistaken as the common manifestation of a benign perianal abscess or fistula. CASE PRESENTATION We present a rare case of a Greek Caucasian 79year old male ...
